My Sound Crush – Heaven Knows by Kristyna Myles

Absolutely loving this stripped-down version of Heaven Knows by Kristyna Myles! It’s so nice to see a young artist pushing such a positive message, and I was really happy to hear that she has been nominated for the Best Gospel Act award at this year’s Mobo’s.

Her management recently got in touch with me to gain my support, and obviously I was more than happy to help. Have a read of the press release below.

Friday Born’s 2014 Donation

So just for those who don’t know, I started Friday Born Designs in 2012 to raise money for Bless the Children International Home, and I go there once a year to donate the profits from all Friday Born sales. My blog post on last year’s donation explains how it all started –> click hereeee.

Last year, the Reverand who runs the orphanage told me about how they had been having trouble with their water supply, so the majority of 2013’s donation money went towards buying the orphanage a water tank. We hoped that when the central water supply was on, the tank would fill up so that even when the central water supply was shut off, they would still have a consistent flow of water. Unfortunately, the central water supply is so poor that the tank was rarely full.

Soooo, my mum came up with the idea of fitting a bore hole. For those who don’t know what a bore hole is, you basically attack the ground until you find a source of water and then connect it all up so it goes into a water tank and then out of a tap. The water is usually really clean and fresh, sort of like their own unlimited stream of Evian mineral water.

If I’m honest, it had only been 8 months since the last donation and I had taken 2-3 months off for exams, so I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to raise enough money to have it fitted. But God is faithful, and I did!

So on August 21st, my family and I went to visit them and spend the day with the kids, which is always fun. I was even featured on Ghanaian news!

Then I came back to London for uni and my parents made the arrangements for the bore hole to be fitted! It’s all working now and they’re so grateful.

So as always, I just want to thank everyone who buys Friday Born Designs items and provides support in so many little ways! Have a look at the donation video here

My Sound Crush – When Will I See You Again by Shakka

Shakka’s back!!!!!!!

I remember falling in love with Shakka when I saw him live at a uni event in 2011, then I went to the launch party for his EP, ‘Tribe‘ last year and that completely sealed the deal. Tribe was definitely in the ‘most played’ playlist on my iTunes for a number of months, so I’m really excited to hear he has new music coming out.

Have a listen to his new song below and see if you fall in love as deeply as I did.

African Fashion Week London 2014

Last weekend, the fourth annual African Fashion Week London was held in Kensington Olympia.

Caitlin Leslie of at Farfetch.com invited me along with two of my favourite African fashion/lifestyle bloggers – Mary of Pop Goes Fashion and Louisa of Afroblush. It was so nice to finally meet them, after reading their blogs for such a long time! We had VIP tickets so had the most amazing front row seats.

Overall, I thought the fashion shows were generally impressive and the day was pretty well organised. There was a LOT of variety, and it was great to see so many different designers portray African fashion in their own unique way. As always, there was a really cool vibe and lots of really beautiful clothes and accessories for sale at the stalls.

Top Button

I released my menswear lookbook last week, and obviously couldn’t leave the females out!

This collection is kinda androgynous, but still has quite a few girly items with classic silhouettes. I’ve always loved shirts (and often get teased for having my top button done up at all times!), and so I remixed what is usually thought of as a male item of clothing and built the collection around that.

Photography and editing were done by Double E Studios, who did an amazing job!

Have a look at the pics below, hope you guys like it!

Palm Wine and Teacups

Screen Shot 2014-07-20 at 22.25.36

I’m so excited to release this new lookbook! The name is really weird, right? Let me explain.

So I’m always talking about how Friday Born Designs is an amalgamation of Ghanaian and British culture, and this lookbook is following that same theme. The shoot was done in a typical British pub, with a typical British guy doing typical British things, but he isn’t dressed like your typical British guy (for those who don’t know, palm wine is a traditional African drink).

I designed this over a few months last year, sourcing the fabrics from London and various markets in Ghana. It took me a while to release it because I spent some time getting the right inspiration for the shoot, and I had to take breaks for exams and uni work etc.

But now it’s done, I absolutely love it.

Hayley Bennett did an amazing job of bringing my idea to life in the pictures. Have a look at them here, hope you like it!

I recently took a trip to the United Arab Emirates! I had such an amazing time, splitting my time between Dubai and Abu Dhabi. We behaved like typical tourists, visiting the sights (Dubai Mall, Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, the Burj Khalifa to name a few), did a good amount of shopping and spent some time chilling in the desert with camels and climbing sand dunes!

Like every other time I travel, I tried to spend a good amount of time getting better at using my camera. Have a look at some of my favourite pics below.

Lola Rae ft Iyanya – Fi Mi Le

Recently, I was asked to style the extras for Lola Rae and Iyanya’s new music video – Fi Mi Le. Have a look at the video!

The shoot took place in this really cool bar in central London. Our aim was to create an African-vintage vibe (I hope it came across in the video aha). Overall, I had a really fun day and met some amazing people. Have a look at some of my behind the scenes pics below.
